Apprentice flies high in dream job

Apprentice flies high in dream job

MBITIOUS Shannon Green is travelling the world after landing her dream career straight from school.

And now the 20-year-old from Farnworth is flying high after being recognised for her hard work at a glamorous award ceremony in London.

The former Harper Green School pupil is assistant manager at Althams Travel, based at the Farnworth branch, after fulfilling her dream to become a travel agent by becoming an apprentice.

The bright student, who had a place at a leading college, decided to follow her dreams through the apprenticeship route – which she said would allow her to study while gain experience and earn at the same time.

This week she won the Intermediate Apprentice of the Year at the National Apprenticeship Awards at London’s Grosvenor House.

She said: “Travel has been a part of my life, as a family we used to travel a lot and and I always knew I wanted to travel.”

Since starting as an apprentice in 2013, she has a range of qualifications and is still study to progress in her career.

Shannon said: “My family expected me to go to college and university but I knew the apprenticeship route was right for me, if I was graduating now, I would not have as much experience as I have now.

“My family are so proud of me.”

As part of work she has travelled and cites Paris as one of her favourite places.

Shannon said: ““I am delighted to have been part of the National Apprenticeship Awards and be named as national winner of the Intermediate Apprentice of the Year. I am so overwhelmed to have won.
