Best for Training is offering this Qfqual Accredited EPA qualification across the UK. Highfield Level 3 Award in Undertaking End-Point Assessment (EPA)  is designed for people who want to become End Point Assessors.

Highfield Level 3 Award in Undertaking End-Point Assessment (EPA) is for those who either want to become Independent End Point Assessors or for trainers who want to support their apprentices prepare for their EPA. This training is delivered online via Zoom by expert trainers who are all experienced Independent EPA Assessors. Zoom has excellent training capabilities that make it easy to join, start and collaborate across any device.

Once you enrol, you will be sent some pre course reading. You must participate in two live online session via Zoom. There will be opportunities during the online sessions for your trainer to observe your participation and record evidence of your competency to meet the requirements of the qualification.

Following each online session, you will be emailed an activity pack, this must be completed and emailed to your trainer. You will discuss and agree submission deadlines with your trainer.

Session 1 – Mondays 10am – 1pm (up to 3 hours depending on group size) Maximum of 4 delegates per session.

We will cover:

  • Apprenticeship standards
  • Assessment plans
  • Effective gateway
  • How to prepare for End Point Assessment (EPA)
  • Common job requirements for an Independent EPA  Assessor


Session 2 – Thursdays 10am – 1pm (up to 3 hours depending on group size) Maximum of 4 delegates per session.

We will cover:

  • Assessment methods used at EPA
  • How to write your EPA reports evaluatively
  • How does EPA grading work?
  • Feedback to apprentices and employers following EPA
  • Internal and External Quality Assurance of EPA

Once you have enrolled, let us know what date you would like to book your first session, we will then work with you individually to plan your completion date – this can be with 1 week or you can take up to 2 months; we are flexible to suit your needs.

Following each session, you will complete a series of activities and knowledge questions. Your trainer is available via email or phone to support your learning and understanding. Once you have successfully completed both live online Zoom sessions and your blended learning activities, you will have completed the qualification. Your qualification will be assessed, if you need to add further evidence, we will let you know and you will have the opportunity to resubmit, if required.

Your qualification will be Internally Quality Assured and your certificate claimed with Highfield.

Progression opportunities

This qualification will enable you to apply to be an End Point Assessor EPA with an EPA Assessment Centre.  Many End Point Assessors are freelance and are paid attractive daily rates.

There is a great demand for Independent Assessors to undertake apprenticeship End Point Assessments. With a Government target of 3 million apprentices and every new apprentice must have an End Point Assessment.  It’s clear there is a rapidly growing need for suitable people to become Independent End Point Assessors. This a a fantastic development opportunity for any assessor looking to expand their employment prospects.

You could also consider progressing onto a Highfield Level 4 Internal Quality Assurance qualification.

About the tutors

Sam Sutton and Anne Horn are both IQA’s and Independent End Point Assessors for a number of large End Point Assessment organisations and have been involved in the pilot implementation of EPA assessments for the new Apprenticeship standards.

Julie Train is currently working nationally with several large End Point Assessor Organisations as an Independent Assessor and Internal Quality Assurer. Julie is an experienced tutor, assessor and IQA and has a wealth of experience and knowledge around apprenticeship delivery including the new apprenticeship standards and quality assurance. Julie has excellent knowledge and experience of apprenticeship employer engagement and  business development.

Our tutors are highly experienced and knowledgeable in the changes within the apprenticeship sector and have received incredible feedback from delegates attending this training.

Sam and Anne have many years of experience successfully delivering apprenticeships and delivering high quality training. They also deliver Assessor, Internal Quality Assurance qualifications and Initial Teacher Training.  They write resources for Awarding Organisations and are External Quality Assurers. As former Ofsted Inspectors, Sam and Anne also provide consultancy services to colleges and apprenticeship training providers to prepare for Ofsted inspections and monitoring visits.
