After 12 years delivering live train-the-trainer sessions, we now offer a blended approach combining online L&D for assessors , trainers and the like, with ongoing live support for SLT and managers. The HOW2 approach is cost-effective and non-disruptive. And totally sustainable and scalable. 


We have worked with tens of thousands of job experts, helping them to quickly become teaching experts. The transition to a blended approach started in 2010 when we won a contract to introduce evidence-based teaching techniques and modernise training provision at the UK MOD. HOW2s are now an integral part of the UK MOD train-the-trainer programmes.  Other customers include Mercedes-Benz UK (in their 3rd year and recently graded ‘2’)  and over 40 FE colleges across England, Wales, and Saudi Arabia. All of them offer apprenticeships, and we get great results helping them to achieve and maintain an Ofsted grade 2 or 1 (or equivalent).


We’ll show your assessors, trainers and teachers ‘HOW2’ ensure their learners make progress over time. We go beyond teaching them what to do. We show them exactly ‘HOW2’ do it — in easy to understand, quick to learn, step-by-step visuals; think aeroplane safety cards.  

We have built a fabulous reputation in the post-16 sector and can put you in touch with customers who enjoy the following benefits 

  1. Success. 88% of our subscribing organisations using HOW2s move to or stay at an Ofsted (or equivalent) grade 2 or 1. 

  2. Sustainable. Mercedes Benz outsource their training and rely on HOW2s to standardise quality of delivery. In 2018 they were graded 2 by Ofsted. Our customers have no need of continual  train-the-trainer events for new staff.  If someone leaves, they simply reallocate the account. 

  3. Scalable. It’s hard to standardise quality of training at scale. But not with HOW2s. Our unique visual approach ensures that everyone is on the same page whether you have 5,10, 100 or, like the MOD, 1000s of trainers.   

  4. Save money and time. Our solutions are more cost effective when compared to traditional train-the-trainer events. We know this because between 1999 and 2009 we led over 2000 live training events ourselves. With HOW2s there is no on-costs or disruption of sending staff to events. And a suite of tools enables you to set up, monitor,  and evidence professional learning from your desktop. 

  5. Standards. 100% aligned to ETF’s professional standards.

  6. Support. We don’t sell you something and disappear. Our support packages see our experienced post-16 Professional Learning Leads work with your SLT to review your last inspection report and to plan and implement a professional learning programme. They’ll work with your managers who have responsibility for ensuring learner progress and success, giving them the tools to succeed. And some of our customers ask us to work directly with their assessors / trainers.
