More About Bowles Learning & Development Centre

We are a soft skills training provider that for over 25 years has used experiential learning techniques to help develop the behaviours required to succeed in the work place. We know that learning by doing can be very powerful in embedding and extending skills development. Blending practical experiences with facilitated and sometimes challenging discussions helps us to create powerful shared memories which go beyond good intentions to actions. Thorough debriefing sessions at the end of each activity ensure that participants are able to feed back on their individual contributions as well as those of the team. We find that time spent reflecting, alongside these shared experiences, brings a deeper level of understanding, trust and motivation.

We help to develop communication, problem solving, team working and decision making skills, the skills that are often lacking in young talent and required in order to pass the end point assessment. We are based on the Kent Sussex border about an hour from London by train and have a stunning venue and residential facility. 

We work with clients such as John Lewis (we are their South East region learning provider), Laing O’Rourke, BMW, Gatwick Airport, British Airways, BAE and Sheraton hotels .They return to us for multiple programmes each year because they know we take the time to understand their aims and requirements and they see the results our programmes have on their graduates, teams and leaders.

We help develop apprentices at various points in their career, whether they be new to the world of employment or existing staff wanting to progress their careers.

Bowles Work Ready and Step into Leadership programmes -  We understand that apprentices that are new to your organisation as well as to the world of work, don’t start employment with the soft skills required to succeed in the workplace, after-all, they are not part of the student’s learning journey. However, our clients tell us that the absence of soft skills in newly acquired talent is a big problem and one that comes at a cost to the organisation. It is also important to note that the new Apprenticeship Standards will cover behaviour as well as skills and knowledge and will contribute to end-point assessment outcomes and grade.

Our Work Ready programmes help your young talent to successfully manage the transition from academia to the workplace. We concentrate on personal development, communication, planning, decision-making and team-working skills. Focusing on these areas also helps to build self-confidence and encourages the taking of personal responsibility.

Our Step into Leadership programme is for those already within the workforce that are ready to take the leap into leadership. Our programme is suitable for those who are, or wish to become, team leaders and/or supervisors. This includes those at the start of their career that wish to become team leaders/ supervisors as well as aspiring or existing managers who have practical experience but wish to develop their management skills further, skills such as:

  • Understanding different leadership styles, team dynamics and motivation techniques.

  • Building trust using negotiation and influencing skills, and managing any conflicts

  • Learning to reflect on their own performance and seek feedback,

  • The ability to adapt to change, identifying challenges and solutions

Our learning environment

We combine unique indoor and outdoor experiences with the guidance of knowledgeable and approachable facilitators. From the outset, apprentices are encouraged to contribute & engage in a way that builds self-awareness and confidence. Activities and challenges are blended effectively to highlight personal strengths and development opportunities both in an inspirational and safely controlled manner. By providing stimulating experiences in our beautiful location, apprentices leave us feeling motivated and enthused. All activities end with a thorough debriefing session during which delegates identify learning outcomes and relate these back to the work environment. It is during these debrief sessions that the real learning takes place. Apprentices discuss the success or failure of the task and their role within that. It gives them the opportunity to give and receive feedback, learn from their mistakes in a safe environment and develop their communication and problem solving skills.

On site we have a residential facility with 5 meeting rooms, dining area and fully licensed bar. Our Lodge building can accommodate up to 46 in en-suite bedrooms or alternatively our Chalet building can accommodate up to 100 people.
